A brighter future for cat and dog rescue centres in the UK

04/30/2018

At Mars Petcare, we believe that every pet deserves a loving home and the best nutrition. We’re proud to work with Associations Dogs and Cats Homes to make a difference to the animals they take care of.

For the last seven years, we’ve been awarding our Feeding Brighter Futures grants which helps to assist rehoming centres by providing much needed funding for projects that help to make a better world for the pets in their care.

Every year, Pedigree and Whiskas offer £120,000 of grants and this year’s winners, chosen from over 51 applications, include:

  • Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary – to install higher welfare kennels that will help the dogs in their care be rehomed more quickly by making them more relaxed when they meet potential new families
  • The Oxfordshire Animal Charity – to refurbish 17 kennels with a separate bedroom and outdoor area to help improve their time at the charity
  • Ferne Animal Sanctuary – to build a playground to help the animals in their care enjoy some play time and provide an area for obedience training
  • Animals in Distress – to build an all-weather agility course which will help socialise the animals in their care, a programme which has already been shown to reduce the average length of stay to 3-5 weeks.

In addition to the grants, the Feeding Brighter Futures programme supports over 100 rehoming centres in the UK through food donations, which along with our volunteering programme means we have donated more than £2 million in the last five years. In 2016, we also launched our charity sales programme, where members can purchase Mars Petcare products at significantly reduced prices. We also provide training sessions to ADCH charity staff on oral care and basic nutrition, sharing our expertise and working together to help the pets in their care.

Andrew Winfrow, National Charities Manager said: “Every pet deserves a loving home and great quality nutrition. Through our work with the ADCH and our Feeding Brighter Futures programme, we’re proud that we can help the dogs and cats who need it most’.
